‘Out Walking’ Exhibition

Collaboration with artist Julie Westbury for ‘Out Walking’ exhibition.

Shelly Goldsmith has collaborated with artist Julie Westbury for Westbury’s exhibition ‘Out Walking’, producing two limited-edition artworks. The Giclee prints present life-size residue prints - an unexpected outcome from the process of garment printing.

Each print knits together in a single image Goldsmith and Westbury’s collage processes: one hand-generated using archival images, the other utilising digital dye sublimation and whole garment printing. Dye sublimation is a process where solid dye is heated, releasing vapour dye which is then transferred under pressure onto fabric. The ubiquitous t-shirt garment, a universal piece of clothing is made from cotton jersey, a knitted fabric, the texture of which is evident in the final print.
